Structural work comes with three questions: what it will cost, when the calculations will arrive, and whether building control will accept them. Calcs-Online answers all three before you pay.
The price comes first. You choose the delivery date, and each date carries its own price. Building control has approved every set of calculations we have issued; if yours were refused, you would get a refund.

An extension, a loft conversion, a wall knocked through, a new build: if the work changes how the building carries its weight, building control will ask for structural calculations. Ours are worked by structural engineers from your drawings.
What are structural calculations?
An engineer's working that shows each part of the structure can carry the loads on it: the beams, the walls and floors they rest on, and the foundations below.
Building control checks the design against them before it is built, and whoever builds it works from them.
When do you need structural calculations?
- Extensions: the new walls, floors and roof, and where they meet the house.
- Loft conversions: new floor joists, roof openings and the beams that carry them.
- Removing a load-bearing wall: the beam that takes over the load, and what holds it up at each end.
- Steel beams (RSJs): the right section for the span and the load on it.
- New builds: every structural element, from the foundations to the roof.
- Bi-fold and sliding doors: the beam over a wide opening and the walls either side of it.
Why do they matter?
They show that each part of the structure will carry its loads for the life of the building. With them in place:
- Building regulations: building control can approve the structural work.
- Safety: the structure is designed for the loads it will carry.

Frequently asked questions
What are structural calculations, and do I need them?
If the work touches the structure of your home (walls, beams, the roof or the floors), you almost certainly need them. Building control asks for them before it approves structural work, and they are what makes the change safe to build.
How long do structural calculations take?
You decide. Your price comes with a calendar, and the day you pick sets the price.
Does anyone need to visit my home?
No. Calcs-Online is remote only: every job is worked from your drawings and photographs, at our desks, wherever in the UK the project is.
What do you need from me?
Architectural drawings, ideally. For simpler jobs, sketches and photographs can be enough. If you would like an engineer to look at them before you buy, get in touch.
What does Calcs-Online do?

How do I get building regulations approval?
There are two routes:
- Full plans: the plans and calculations go to building control and are approved before work starts.
- Building notice: work starts once notice is given, and building control inspects it as it goes. It can still ask for calculations.
Our calculations are written for either route.
Who is responsible:
Meeting building regulations is the responsibility of whoever carries out the work and the owner of the building. The structural design is ours, covered by £500k professional indemnity insurance.
